Updated: Jul 6, 2020

Brief History of Weeki Wachee Springs

Meaning "winding river" or "little spring," Weeki Wachee was named by the Seminoles. Each day, 117 million gallons of water pump out all year long. The spring keeps a constant, comfortable temperature of 74 degrees, creating the ideal climate for cold manatees during the summer. To this day, the bottom of the spring is yet to be found.

Mermaid History

Made famous by the mermaid show in October of 1947, Weeki Wachee was one of the most popular tourist stops in the 1950s.

Day at Weeki Wachee Springs

Nearly every year, for the past decade, my family has visited Weeki Wachee Springs around Christmas. This year, I decided to try something new and take GoPro videos of the trip. I thought Vampire Weekend's song, Sunflower, fit the mood for the day and added it to my personal video; however, this is the internet and I cannot add it to the public video... Check out the song here.
